'Blazing Saddles'

A. O. Scott reviews Mel Brooks' 1974 film, which satirizes race relations both in Hollywood westerns and in American culture. "Blazing Saddles" could only be an American movie, and requires that the viewer have a good knowledge of American culture to appreciate the humor.
The town of Rock Ridge is happy to welcome their new sheriff - until they see that he is black.
